Seems annoying for tinkering, but good as a daily driver with minimal issues, i’m going bazzite if I get any issues with cachyos, reccomending bluefin/aurora to family that want to switch depending on if they like plasma or gnome, I like universal blue and how those distros work, if Linux was the only OS on this computer id go bazzite, for now I still have windows as a backup, so i’m going cachyos. I haven’t opened the windows side in 2 days tho, so I might just fully make the switch.

You’re right, in practice tho itd work like dex having your own customized environment with all your files and software, except itd use whatever hardware its plugged into, imo if it had become common phones would be the hardware its usually using and encased in, plugging in to a computer would give you dex mode, hence working like dex (but not hardware wise when in desktop mode)

Kinda like external gpus when they were popular with slim and thin laptops hardwarewise going from laptop to desktop in the same environmennt.

Would be cool for android to have a desktop mode that uses the hardware its plugged into, let you boot from your phone like a live usb (I think thats what live usbs are)

I was more worried about compatibility and dependencies i might need and not know about, cachy seems to grab a lot of stuff that I wouldn’t think to grab, not sure, installed cachyos and tired to open a steam windows game from my d drive noita and it worked/played fine using wine instantly. Not sure if the others would work as well as that. I think bazzite is based off fedora and also does what cachy does. I’m liking kde plasma, Im also liking a presetup version of hyprland (the 2nd most popular one, hard to remember name)

  • Im using cachy, I had to manually partition with gparted once in the install screen after using the usb since auto didnt work but the most recent cachyos dualboot yt video can walk you through that, I can find that for you if you need it, I used ventoy since I wanted to keep using my usb for data.

Look up linux desktop environments, that more decides the look, disto decides how and where you get packages, what kind you can install, etc. Like cachyos I use pacman or paru to get packages, elsewhere youd use something else and theyd pull from a different repo.
