Is there anything that doesn’t run linux lol?
How many hoops (if any) did you have to jump through to install?
Linux is great for reserecting old hardware! I had an old gaming pc I built back in 2009 (had to replace graphics card) onto which I installed guix. Now I have a raid 1 store, samba network share, and jellyfin server!
It’s a ghost town so not really fun/useful.
It really seems like the future or some variation of it.
True, then I’d be screwed. But, because my system config is declared in a single file (plus a file for channels) i could re-install my system and be back in business relatively quickly. There’s also guix home but I haven’t had a chance to try that.
Me too. Additionally, I use guix so if a system update ever broke my machine I can just rollback to a prior system version (either via the command line or grub menu).
I’ve had a similar experience with Guix.
Gnu Guix is working on HURD integration.
More like: Looks Cool
Versus how it is now: Looks cool
or if you have a shit ton of tabs open: lo… co…
The Inverted Frontier series by Linda Nagata is sort of what you’re looking for. It’s not hard sci-fi, but it has a strong emphasis on organic computation. Books so far in the series are: Edges, Silver, Needle, and Blade.
There’s a three book prequel series, The Nanotech Succession as well. It’s not required to read it before The inverted frontier but it’s quite good so I would if I were you.
Yeah Linux is great at supporting old hardware. I had an old desktop I built in 2009 lying around doing nothing. So I installed guix w/ a non-libre kernel onto it and brought it back to life!
Oh nice.
