It depends on your goals, and what cultures are you interested in.
I’m also fluent in Spanish and English (native Spanish though), and my third language of choice has always been between Chinese or Japanese. I like east asian culture, technology and many of their cultural exports. So it was an easy choice for me (easy the choice, languages… not so easy).
I work in a public administration. And 90% of our work is done on webapps anyway. There will be no difference if the os is windows or linux.
Same in Spain.
Everything is digitalized and you have the right to do everything digitally. I’ve never mailed anything to the government.
You don’t upload pictures because you don’t want to be tracked.
I don’t upload pictures because no one wants to track me.
We are different.
Open source means open source, I never assume anything else from open source projects.
I certainly doubt it. They would probably just be protecting themselves and their own kind.
If a humpback whale have experiences of killing whales attacking them or their offspring probably thought it was a good idea to do as possible to interfere with them. Probably would carry a genocide on orcas giving the chance.
I don’t think it is out of mercy. Mercy is something that is learning growing in a better environment that any animal growing in the brutal natural world.
I think is actually kind of nice.
I mean of all species living on earth, human is the only species that would consider genocide a bad thing. Some random plant on prehistoric ages would just produce oxygen an cause a mass extinction without sweating it.
And for most human history Humans would actually try to genocide others.
At least now there is people who is anti-genocide. And it’s probably a growing stance.
I like the meme.
I just wish they would merge the “truly infinite worlds” branch. The horizontal limits are to tight for this kind of game.
The real fun is doing software emulation running inside your mental calculations.
But can YOU run doom?
I don’t see the lemmy model failing. So, as others, I think is more of a solution in search for a problem.
In general I don’t see any reason to leave Lemmy right now.
Also I don’t think things will keep simple with that model. I see a lot of underlying complexities that the current formula does not have.
Maybe it would be a better to try that model on a fediverse area with less success than lemmy.
Peertube is really struggling for instance. Not really on the developer side of things but on the content creators. Maybe a coop of content creators for peertube could me something that is needed on the fediverse.
Have you ever lived in a building block?
I don’t know in other countries. In Spain we have horizontal property law, that means that a building block is managed by all it’s members. Probably the same in other countries but IDK.
The thing is that it is a NIGHTMARE. We have not one, but two of the most famous spanish comedy shows are about how hellish building block communities are.
I know cases were old people have to walk stairs everyday because other members of the block refuse to put an elevator. I wouldn’t want to know what would happen if a few buildings could just choose not to put plumbing, or not to put traffic lights.
And if I’m correct the US equivalent would be this communities in the suburbs that make “law” that you cut your lawns at 3 inches tall exactly every sunday a 7:03 am, exactly. And become extremely anal to everyone complying to their ridiculous aesthetic ideas.
People in small communities can be incredibly shitty. I feel like bigger communities tend to grant more rights to people and ensure those rights are applied.
Everything is already decentralized if you think about. There is no central Earth government.
We may be thinking about what size we want communities to be. My answer is that it depends on the community. Climate change council? Probably needs to be a global community. Street cleaning? City level community. And so on.
I’ll say that I find easier to exit vim that to exit nano.
I don’t know what ^ means. I just start pressing special keys until it doesn’t the thing
I also try to use the feminine as neutral instead of masculine. -Note: I’m Spanish so our language is heavily gendered- Mostly because I think that sounds better than the trend of using a newly introduced neutral gender that sounds terrible because Spanish language never had neutral.
Also if someone gets angry for that I have always the reply “now you know a little on how women fell during all story”
But still, neutral and inclusive language is still too new and far away from normalization to get mad at people on how they use it or not use. And if you are not deadnaming or deadgendering (is that a word?) you are not really hurting anyone.
Jumping to transphobic and misogynistic for not wanting to use inclusive language in some repo documentation is a big jump. He didn’t ever dead named anyone or refuse to use some person preferred pronoums. Its just not wanting to use inclusive language on documentation. Most, if not all, documentation I have ever read in my life don’t use the newest trend of inclusive language.
By they way accusations were written it seemed like devs were actually exposing hate speech or something like that.
Let’s not be like that, ok? At least I choose not be like that. You can destroy people lives with such accusations over basically nothing, be better.
I know that we are near Americans elections as it always makes the whole internet jumping, and throwing knives to find “the enemy”. But it could be as simple as inclusive language might be confusing for non english speakers, or might the trend change over time and it’s just a bother to keep updating with the lastest trend. Do you know how many versions of inclusive language did we have in my language? We started using ell@s, then ellxs, then ellos y ellas, then elles, then ellos, ellas y elles. It’s too volatile and little to be that mad over it. Specially when there’s people out there who truly hate anyone who is not a cis str male and is doing true hate speech over that.
If there’s more evidence of devs being evil, I will aknowledge it. But for such a little inconsequential thing (again it’s not even being against someone chosen pronoums, it’s just general documentation) I refuse to spread hate towards other human being.
Such accusations should really be followed by a source.
So?
For many small project is AI/copied images or no images at all.
When you do not have money you are not hiring a 2000€/month artist to do imagery for your website. You go online to copy something or nowadays you can use AI to wrap it up. It’s a tool at people’s disposition like any other.
And before anyone comes talking about copyright laws… shall I present them my 10 TB hard drive of pirated media? Human culture is to be shared, not gatekeeped.
Probably some filter would be needed. Like a list of curated instances.
Imagine if the geographically closest is the Furry instance.
